Operation Veteran Hub

12th March 2020 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Operation Veteran Hub was launched in April 2018 at the YMCA in North Shields and is open on the 2nd Thursday of each month between 10.00 and 12.00 am.

The Hub is a joint approach between Operation Veteran and Project Nova and was created in consultation with the veterans attending the breakfast club who felt that they would like to get together to discuss issues affecting veterans when leaving the armed forces, using their own experiences to provide peer support and sometimes a shoulder to lean on.

The aims of the Hub are to address the major obstacles that many services personnel experience when leaving the forces; unemployment, housing, mental health, substance misuse, breakdown of relationships, disability, inactivity and isolation.

This has proved to be a successful venture with many organisations visiting to provide support, including AGE UK, SSAFA, RBL, Armed Forces & Veterans Launchpad, AFOS, a local theatre company (Blowin a Hooley), NERAF and representation from the Standard Bearers Association, Blind Veterans, with offers of support from WWTW, Anxious Minds, YMCA, and Veterans in Crisis among others.

We also have our very own Padre; George Callander, an expert in bereavement but who is also one of the gang and there to provide moral and spiritual support and guidance where required.

The hub is run on a very informal basis with one to one support available or even just for a friendly chat.

The essence of our groups is that ‘you are not on your own and it’s okay not to be okay’.

Everyone is welcome so why not give us a bell, drop us a line or just pop in?
